DIY Clay Floral Headband

10.15.13

Floral-Headband-13When I came across this Crown and Glory headband on Pinterest, I knew I had found my newest DIY project. You can most likely buy the flowers pre-made at a craft store, but I wanted my headband to perfectly match its inspiration, so I made them out of clay. In putting the headband together, I had the opportunity to try a new product called Glu6 by Nine Live Products. It’s a non-toxic glue made from recycled styrafoam…bonus, it smells like lemons! I tried both the craft paste (for attaching the flowers) and the Glu6 original to coat the roses and give them a glossy shine. I’m super happy with how it turned out!!

* The people at Nine Lives Products were nice enough to offer all my readers 25% off of their order just by using the code FALL2013. The code is good until October 31st so be sure to place your order soon!*Floral-Headband

– Headband

Floral-Headband-41. To make the rose, roll out a small ball of clay to about a radius of 1/4″. Roll the ball into a cone shape measuring approximately 1/2″.

Floral-Headband-22. Flatten the tip of the cone and roll to create the center of the rose.

Floral-Headband-43. Roll out two more small balls with a radius of 1/4″. Flatten one half of the ball to create a single petal as shown above.

Floral-Headband-54. Attach the petal to the center of the rose. Flatten the remaining ball and wrap it around the center, overlapping the first petal. Slightly bend back the edges of the petals.

Floral-Headband-65. Continue making petals in this fashion until the rose is as big as you want it.

Floral-Headband-76. When you have finished adding petals to your rose, pinch the bottom of the rose making sure all the petals are firmly attached. Cut off the excess clay leaving a flat bottom on the rose.

Floral-Headband-97. I wanted my roses to have a glossy shine, so I used some Glu6 Original and a small  paintbrush to coat each of the roses. Let them dry.

Floral-Headband-108. Arrange your roses in the pattern you want to glue them onto your headband.

Floral-Headband-99. Apply some Glu6 Craft Paste to the bottom of the rose and attach to the headband. Let the headband dry thoroughly in an upright position.

Floral-Headband-12So pretty! I love the pastel colors!! Enjoy!
