DIY Woven Chain Bracelet

DIY Woven Chain Bracelet

There are many variations of the woven chain bracelet. I had some left over chain and embroidery thread from previous projects, so I decided on a simple method to string two pieces of chain together. I used a hemming stitch to connect the chains, and added jump rings and a finding. I love the way it turned out! I plan to make more and maybe spray paint the chain in different colors!

Woven Chain Bracelet

You’ll need:

– Finding
– Gold Chain
– Jump Rings
– Embroidery thread
– Pliers
– Wire Cutter

Woven Chain Bracelet1. Using your wrist as a guide, measure and cut your chain to the length you want it. Mine came out to about 6 1/2 inches. Cut a 36 inch piece of embroidery thread and fold in half. Attach the thread to one end of one gold chain and tie a double knot.

DIY Woven Chain Bracelet2. Thread the embroidery through the first opening of the second chain. Going underneath the first chain, thread the embroidery through the first opening. (I ended up attaching a large needle to the end of the thread to make the stitching easier.)

Woven Chain Bracelet3. Continue to “stitch” the chains together in the over-under pattern until you reach the end of the two chains. Tie a knot on the end of the chain. Cut off any extra thread.

Woven Chain Bracelet4. Attach jump rings to each end of the bracelet. On one of the jump rings, add a finding.

DIY Woven Chain BraceletAnd you’re done! More bracelets to add to your jewelry collection!

DIY Oversized Bow-Tie

Oversized-bowtie-6

A few weeks ago I posted about oversized bow-ties as DIY inspiration. The bows were a major aspect of the Saint Laurent Spring 2013 fashion show, along with clean lines and floppy hats. Oversized bows in a soft fabric are a great way to add a touch of feminine to a full suit. The best part about this DIY is that it takes less than an hour to make! This is key for someone with big aspirations and a short attention span.

Oversized-bowtie-1

You’ll need:

– Chiffon Fabric (60″ L x 24″ W)
– Matching Thread
– Pins
-Sewing Machine (or you could sew it by hand)
– 1″ pin back

Oversized-bowtie-2
1. Fold the 60″ x 24″ piece of fabric vertically down the middle. Pin along the edges.
2. Sew along the edges, leaving a 4 inch gap at one end. Turn the bow right-side out, and sew the gap closed. Oversized-bowtie-33. Fold the fabric in half. Bend the two sides upwards and tie as you would to make a bow.

Oversized-bowtie-44. Adjust the bow until it is the shape and length you want it.

Oversized-bowtie-55. Sew a few stitches through the tie so the bow will hold its shape. (This step is optional if you think you might want to re-tie your bow in the future.) Sew the pin back on the lower backside of the oversized bow.

Oversized-bow-7And you’re done! Pair with your favorite button down and blazer for a flirty yet professional look!

Spring Blossoms

This past weekend was the National Cherry Blossom Festival in DC. Everyone was hoping to see some great blossoms, but the weather was not cooperating. There were few blooms, and you could tell people were disappointed. However, it seems this week we have skipped Spring all together and went straight to summer. With temperatures in the high 80s (it hit 90 yesterday, eek!) the blossoms are starting to peak. Hopefully I can see them again soon!

DIY Tassel Bracelet

Tassel-Bracelet-6

Earlier this week I posted a tutorial on how to make tassels out of embroidery thread. I knew I wanted to create a piece of jewelry with the tassels for a fun and colorful look. I decided on tassel bracelets. I used small beads in two different colors, but you can use as many colors as you want. The smaller sized beads also make the tassel bracelets great for stacking!

Tassel-Bracelet-1

You’ll need:

– Tassels
– Beads
– Bead and Jewelry Cord
– Scissors

tassel-bracelet-21. Start by cutting a 12″ long piece of stretchy jewelry cord. Triple knot one end of the cord, leaving about a 1″ tail.

tassel-bracelet-32. String the beads onto the cord. Keep measuring the bracelet to your wrist, and adjust the size accordingly. When the bracelet is the correct length, add a tassel to the end.

tassel-bracelet-43. Finish the bracelet by tightly double knotting the cord at the end. Cut off any excess cord.

DIY Jewelry Organizer

Earlier this week I made a post about different jewelry storage ideas. Today I’ll show you how to make your own jewelry organizer out of wire. I was inspired by this photo on Pinterest. This DIY allows you to organize your jewelry and display it in a fun way!

What you’ll need:

– Hanger as a template
– Wire (I used 12 gauge)
– Pliers
– Something small and round (Nail polish or chapstick works)
– Spray paint (optional)

Jewelry-Storage-Hanger-11. Start by making a small curve on one end of the wire. Using the hanger as a template, shape your wire to follow the curves of the hanger.

jewelry-organizer2. Continue to recreate the shape of the hanger until you reach the deep bend on one side.

Jewelry-storage-hanger-23. After you create the first bend, use the nail polish bottle or chapstick to create the wavy pattern along the bottom of the hanger.

jewelry-organizer4. Continue the pattern until you reach the opposite end. Then create the second bend to complete the hanger shape.

Jewelry-storage-hanger-35. Twist the wire multiple times around the neck of the hanger. Cut off excess wire. Leave your jewelry hanger as is, or spray paint in any color!
