Menswear: Shorts Suit

At the Spring 2014 Menswear shows, some women decided to go with a guy-inspired look by rocking the Shorts Suit. They stood out by wearing one in a bright and bold color. The short suit is perfect for summer, while allowing one to remain cool, but still look put-together and professional. Dress the look up with a tie and patterned suspenders, or down with a t-shirt or tank.

DIY Geometric Necklace

07.09.13

Geometric Necklace

Remember my Geometric Rings? I wanted to make a necklace using the same technique. Instead of painting the clay, I decided to just use brightly colored clay. I absolutely loved the way it turned out!

Geometric-Necklace

You’ll need:

– Polymer Clay
– Chain
– Jump Rings
– Jewelry Fastenter
– Wire
– Xacto Blade
– Pliers

Geometric-Necklace1. Start by kneading the clay until it is soft enough to form. Roll the clay into balls. Mine were about 1-1.5″ in diameter.

Geometric-Necklace2. Use one end of the wire to poke a hole all the way through the clay balls. Bake the clay following the instructions on the wrapper.

Geometric-Necklace3. After the clay has baked and cooled, use the Xacto knife to cut off the rounded edges of the ball until you are left with only straight edges.

Geometric-Necklace4. Cut a 6″ piece of wire (or long enough to fit your shapes). Using the pliers, bend a small loop into one of the ends.

Geometric-Necklace5. String your clay shapes onto the wire. Cut off any excess wire and make a loop on the end. Add jump rings to each of the loops.

Geometric-Necklace6. Cut two pieces of chain whatever length you want your necklace. Mine were about 9″ long. Attach a jump ring and fastener to one chain, and a jump ring to the other chain.

Geometric-Necklace7. Attach the opposite ends of the chains to the jump rings on the wire loops. And you’re done!

Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookies

Salted Chocolate & Caramel Cookies

These Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookies are the perfect combination of sweet and salty. I used this recipe for the cookies and they turned out wonderfully! They were soft, chewy, and delicious! Some helpful tips when baking the cookies: I found it best to chill the dough for at least an hour. Also, when adding the caramel, push them far into the center of the dough to avoid caramel ‘craters’. Finally, don’t skip the sea salt…it really brings out the other flavors!

DIY Double-Wrapped Braided Chain Bracelet

Braided-Chain-Bracelet

Lately, I’ve been all about quick and easy DIYs with a big impact. I’ve seen the braided chain bracelet on other sites, and wanted to add my own spin. Naturally, that resulted in using every bright color of embroidery thread I loved at Hobby Lobby (oh, how I miss you). In the spirit of going big, I chose to leave the chain long so I could wrap it around my wrist twice! *Bonus: It also works as a choker! Inspired by this necklace!

Braided-Chain-Bracelet

Materials:

– Embroidery Thread (I used a total of 9 different colors)
– 14″ Chain (long enough to wrap around your wrist twice)
– Jump Rings
– Jewelry Fastener
– Tape
– Scissors

Braided-Chain-Bracelet1. Cut your thread in 36″ long pieces. (Double the length of the chain and extra for knots.) Separate into two color groups. Tape one end of each group to make it easier to loop through the chain.

Braided-Chain-Bracelet2. Knot the opposite ends of the thread. Place the knotted end next to one end of chain.
